Chapter guide

System capability, changed user behavior, improved business outcomes and realized financial gains are separate questions. Explain the evidence for each step; minutes saved multiplied by salary do not automatically represent cash savings.

Count model, integration, review, rework, support and opportunity costs. Check how benefits and workload are distributed: positive totals do not establish a fair burden for every role.

Identify assumptions that most affect the conclusion and compare distinct options. An investment decision needs scope, budget, ownership, open questions and review conditions, rather than approval in principle.
